DC: Kim Reynolds
The Moose Jaw Pony club was dormant for around 20 years before being reformed Oct 2016 at the Regional AGM. In the first year there were 11 members, in 2018 13 came on board and there will be 17 training in 2019. We have 6 riders who completed their D2 levels and are now training at C, with one D2 and one D1 rider. We have a number of new members of various ages who will find their training level this year as we sort them all out!
DC – Kim Reynolds – Kim Reynolds initiated the resurrection of the Moose Jaw Pony Club after it had been dormant for many years.
ADC – Christine Stokes – Christine rode in the B levels in the Calgary area. She studied at the University of Saskatoon, married and settled outside of Moose Jaw and has been busy with three young girls who are already being streamed through the Pony Club. Christine has taken over the education portion of our club and is teaching all the Stable Management lessons. She has just accepted the position of Regional Education Chair and is excited for all the great things that are being planned for the future!
Riding Coach for senior class – Robbie Lewis – Robbie rode in the B levels and traveled to Ireland to compete with the national team in 1998. He has been providing private lessons for years, and served as the Equestrian coach for our zone in the 2012 Summer Games in Meadow Lake. As a former Pony Club member, he truly enjoys the Sunday training days and watching the group progress so quickly every week!
Jessica Scott is our D and D1 coach. She owns Over the Top Equestrian Centre and was a former Moose Jaw Pony Club member. As our club has grown she is taking on more and more of a role setting the foundations skills for the riders preparing to step up to the higher levels.
Our two branch Youth Reps, Mya Viczko and Skye Mushens have been riding together for a number of years now. They both have adventurous spirits, and have tackled barrel racing, herding bison, roping, goat tying, and through it all they have ridden English with their eyes on the jumps. They enjoy the respect of their branch members and take the interests of all the youth members forward.
Mya photobombing, Skye rolling her eyes… Haley laughing at them both!
The Moose Jaw Pony club trained at Over the Top in it’s first training season. It has branched out to enjoy the Moose Jaw Exhibition, GAIT Equestrian as well, but retains Over the Top for its great outdoor course. We are possibly the luckiest branch in the province, maybe the country, for all the great, friendly facilities to use!
Dec 10, 2017 Moose Jaw had the first evaluations held in 20 years and at the end of the day, 2 level D badges were awarded, and 8 D1 badges! We are certainly a junior club compared to more established branches, but we are game to attack the next levels!
It was a proud day when those badges were awarded! It felt great to break the seal on a long drought in our part of the province!
Taylor Haavisto, Haley Clark, Skye Mushens, Mya Viczko, Jolee Akins and Kate Hansen ready for their D2 riding turnout evaluation, Oct 2018. They all passed and are now stepping into the 2019 training year as level C contenders!
